ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL Etown Falls to Lebanon Valley, 3-1, in 2003 Commonwealth Conference Opener; Emily Morris Becomes 3rd Blue Jay to Reach 1,000 Career Kill Mark ANNVILLE, Pa. --- In a frustrating match, Elizabethtown lost its 2003 Commonwealth Conference opener on the road Tuesday night to Lebanon Valley, 3-1, to drop to 6-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference. In the course of the match, Emily Morris (Canton, PA/Canton) compiled 13 kills to increase her career total to 1,007. She is just the third Blue Jay volleyball player to reach the 1,000 career kill plateau, although she remains 288 kills shy of the program record. Elizabethtown dropped a close first game to Lebanon Valley 32-30, but the Blue Jays opened the second game strong and built a 27-13 lead as Morris and Ashley Wade (Duncansville, PA/Hollidaysburg) each posted five kills in the game. However, Lebanon Valley crept back into the second game and went on an 11-3 run before ultimately succumbing 30-24 to Etown. Lebanon Valley continued the momentum it gained late in the second game and won the third game 30-21. The Flying Dutchmen (9-5, 1-0) took the fourth and final game 30-25. Morris' 13 kills led Etown for the match, as did her 33 digs, which constituted the seventh-highest single match total in Etown history. Meghan Gowens (Pensacola, FL/B.T. Washington) had 29 digs, the 11th-highest single match total ever at Etown, and she had nine kills. Wade finished with nine kills, a team high of five blocks, and 21 digs, and Lindsay Johnson (Elkton, MD/Sanford) had 11 kills for the Blue Jays. Elizabethtown will return to action Saturday, September 20 at the Swarthmore Tournament. Lebanon Valley (9-5, 1-0) def. Elizabethtown (6-5, 0-1) 32-30,24-30,30-21,30-25 |
