Elizabethtown Wins Swarthmore Garnet Tide Classic Title, Emily Morris Named Tournament MVP

SWARTHMORE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown won the 2003 Swarthmore Garnet Tide Classic tournament title Saturday, defeating three teams in the process to improve to 9-5 on the season. It is the Blue Jays' best start through 14 matches since 1996. Senior outside hitter Emily Morris (Canton, PA/Canton) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Etown's opening round match of the day was its most difficult, as the Blue Jays needed five games to defeat Marywood in a match that was decided by a margin of two points in the final game, 23-30, 30-15, 30-20, 27-30, 15-13. Against Marywood, Morris tied the program record for most digs in a match she set last week with 44.

The Blue Jays downed St. Joseph's 30-24, 30-18, 30-13 in their second match, and they handily defeated the tournament host 30-18, 30-20, 30-24 in the championship match.

Etown will return to action Wednesday, September 24 as the host of Commonwealth Conference rival Albright in a 7:00 p.m. match.
