Elizabethtown Smokes Albright, 30-23, 30-14, 30-19, for First Conference Win

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown gained its first Commonwealth Conference win of 2003 with a 30-23, 30-14, 30-19 home blowout of Albright Wednesday night. The Blue Jays improved to 10-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while Albright dropped to 11-4 overall and 0-2 in the Commonwealth with the loss.

Ashley Wade (Duncansville, PA/Hollidaysburg) led Elizabethtown's attack with eight kills and just one error in 15 attempts. Wade also led the Blue Jays with four blocks. Megan Gowens (Pensacola, FL/B.T. Washington) whacked seven kills for Etown with no errors in nine attempts for a match hitting percentage of .778, and Emily Morris (Canton, PA/Canton) had seven kills and no errors in 18 attempts.

Morris and Melissa Maioriello (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) led the Blue Jays in digs with 13 each, and Julie Torchia (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) and Kate Scanlan (Milmont Park, PA/Ridley) both had team highs in service aces with three.

Elizabethtown will return to action Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27 as the host of the 2003 Blue Jay Classic tournament. Etown will face Montclair State at 3:30 p.m. Friday and St. Mary's (Md.) at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Saturday's matches will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the tournament championship will be played at 5:00 p.m. Saturday.
