ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL Elizabethtown Defeats Montclair State and St. Mary's, 3-0, On First Day of Blue Jay Classic ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown won both of its matches by scores of 3-0 on the first day of its Blue Jay Classic tournament Friday, defeating both Montclair State and St. Mary's (Md.). Elizabethtown, which improves to 12-5 overall with the wins, will advance to play at noon Saturday, September 27 against Marywood. Etown picked up its opening round win over Montclair State with game scores of 30-17, 30-19, 30-25 and held a commanding lead through much of the match. Montclair State challenged Etown for the lead through much of the second game, however, with the Blue Jays up by a narrow 16-14 margin at one point before pulling away 14-5 to end the game. Against Montclair State, first-year Lindsay Johnson (Elkton, MD/Sanford) had nine service aces - the second-highest single match total in Elizabethtown history and one shy of the Blue Jays' program record. In all, Etown totaled 13 aces in the match. Johnson also led the Blue Jays in kills against Montclair State with 11. Emily Morris (Canton, PA/Canton) and Meghan Gowens (Pensacola, FL/B.T. Washington) each had 10 kills for Etown, and Morris led the team in digs with 24. In their second match of the day, the Blue Jays pulled out a come-from-behind 30-28 win in the first game against St. Mary's after being down 28-26. Etown cruised to a 30-20 win in the second game and defeated St. Mary's 30-23 in the third and final game. Again Johnson, this time along with Morris, paved the way for Etown in kills with 13 each, and Johnson had seven kills in the third game alone. She and Ashley Wade (Duncansville, PA/Hollidaysburg) each had team highs of three service aces, and Wade added four blocks and eight kills. Morris also led Etown with 18 digs. Dee Selby (York, PA/Spring Grove) led Etown with 20 assists and five blocks, and Andrea Salvadge (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights) had 19 assists and 15 digs. Gowens added 10 kills for Etown against St. Mary's. When play at the Blue Jay Classic resumes at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, the two teams that were winless Friday, Montclair State and Ursinus, will face each other.
