ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL Etown Sweeps First Day of Scranton Tournamen to Improve to 6-3 SCRANTON, Pa. --- Elizabethtown swept the first day of competition at the University of Scranton's tournament Friday to improve to 6-3 overall in 2004. The Blue Jays won both of their matches 3-0, defeating Haverford Colege 30-22, 30-13, 30-27, and beating DeSales University 30-18, 30-23, 30-10. By sweeping Friday's matches, Etown clinched the top spot in Pool C for Saturday's competition. Meghan Gowens (Pensacola, FL/B.T. Washington) led the Blue Jays in kills against Haverford with nine, and she also posted ten digs. Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) led the Blue Jays in assists with 32 as well as in service aces with four against Haverford. Kayla Kassis (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) posted a team high of 11 digs in that match, and Ashley Wade (Duncansville, PA/Hollidaysburg) led the Blue Jays in blocks with four. Facing DeSales, Wade led the team in kills with 14, and she had 11 digs. Gowens cranked out 11 kills and led the team in digs with 16. Wasserman again led the Blue Jays in assists with 32. Etown will return to action tomorrow morning in the Scranton tournament against Dickinson College in a 10:00 a.m. match. Following that, the Blue Jays will play again at either 2:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. against an opponent to be determined. At Scranton, Pa. Elizabethtown 3, DeSales 0 |
