Etown Lengthens Win Streak to Seven Matches, Advances to Winners' Bracket in Blue Jay Classic Tournament

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown won both of its matches on the first day of its annual Blue Jay Classic Tournament Friday to improve to 11-3 overall and stretch its current winning streak to seven matches. Etown defeated Ursinus 30-11, 30-10, 25-30, 30-16, and the Blue Jays downed St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn 30-18, 30-21, 30-17.

Kelly Downs (Airville, PA/Red Lion) led the Blue Jay offense against Ursinus with 13 kills, and Ashley Whitmarsh (New Castle, DE/Padua Academy) and Meghan Gowens (Pensacola, FL/B.T. Washington) chipped in eight and seven kills, respectively. Gowens also posted a team high of nine digs against Ursinus.

Against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, Gowens led the Blue Jays in kills with 13, and Downs added 10 kills. Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) and Kate Scanlan (Milmont Park, PA/Ridley) each led the Blue Jays in service aces with three apiece, and Wasserman led Etown in assists on the night with 21 against St. Joseph's and 18 against Ursinus.
