ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL Etown Wins Blue Jay Classic Tournament for 2nd Year in a Row; Etown Win Streak Hits Nine Matches; Blue Jays off to Best Start Since 1988 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown won the 2004 Blue Jay Classic Tournament Saturday after sweeping both St. John Fisher (30-27, 30-20, 30-20) and Moravian (30-28, 30-19, 30-25) on the second day of competition. It is the second year in a row that Etown has won its annual tournament, and it is the first time the Blue Jays have won their namesake tournament for two years in a row since 1994-95. Saturday's wins also extended Etown's current winning streak to nine matches, the Blue Jay's longest streak since a ten-match tear in 1994. Etown improves to 13-3 overall with the wins. The Blue Jays are off to their best start through 16 matches since 1988. Five Blue Jay players were named to the All-Tournament Team. Kelly Downs (Airville, PA/Red Lion) was the tournament Most Valuable Player, and Meghan Gowens (Pensacola, FL/B.T. Washington), Ashley Wade (Duncansville, PA/Hollidaysburg), Ashley Whitmarsh (New Castle, DE/Padua Academy) and Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) all earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.
