Christopher Newport Halts Etown's Win Streak at 12; Blue Jays' Record Now 16-5 Following Four Matches at CNU Classic

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --- Elizabethtown saw its long winning streak end Saturday as host Christopher Newport defeated Elizabethtown twice in the CNU Classic, but not before the Blue Jays stretched their streak to 12 matches, the team's longest since an equal run in 1990. On Friday night Etown defeated Southern Virginia University 30-28, 30-22, 23-30, 33-31 and downed Salem College 30-18, 30-17, 30-24. On Saturday, Etown first fell to CNU 30-27, 30-22, 30-27, and then fell to CNU again 27-30, 30-27, 30-24, 32-30. Elizabethtown's record now stands at 16-5 overall.

Against Southern Virginia Friday, Ashley Whitmarsh (New Castle, DE/Padua Academy) totaled 21 kills, the 14th-highest single match total in the history of the program.

Whitmarsh, Meghan Gowens (Pensacola, FL/B.T. Washington) and Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) were all named to the all-tournament team.

Elizabethtown will return to action in a Commonwealth Conference match Wednesday, October 6, on the road at Susquehanna University at 7:00 p.m.
