Elizabethtown’s Drive for 500 Wins Stymied by Widener; Pioneers win 3-1 over Etown

CHESTER, Pa. --- Elizabethtown’s attempt to reach the 500 all-time win plateau ran into a setback Wednesday night on the road against Commonwealth Conference rival Widener University. The host Pioneers defeated Etown in four games, 30-21, 28-30, 30-28, 30-24. Etown, which remains parked at 499 wins in the history of the program, drops to 9-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference in 2005, while Widener improves to 10-3 overall and 1-0 in the Commonwealth.

Setter Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) led the Blue Jays in digs with 18 and in assists with 34, and she mustered four blocks. Middle hitter Kelly Downs (Airville, PA/Red Lion) led Etown in kills with 18 and had four blocks as well. Libero Kate Scanlan (Milmont Park, PA/Ridley) led Etown in digs with 16.

Etown will resume its quest for 500 all-time wins Friday, September 23 when it hosts its annual Blue Jay Classic tournament. The Blue Jays are scheduled to face Ursinus College at 3:00 p.m. Friday and Wilkes University at 5:00 p.m. Friday.
