Elizabethtown Wins 500th Match in Program History on First Day of Blue Jay Classic

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 11-4 overall and won the 500th match in the history of the program Friday on the first day of the team’s annual Blue Jay Classic Tournament.

Etown defeated Ursinus College 30-21, 30-12, 30-25 in its first match of the day to hit the 500 victory plateau. The Blue Jays went on to defeat Wilkes University 30-11, 30-25, 30-18 in their next match.

Against Ursinus, Ashley Whitmarsh (New Castle, DE/Padua Academy) led Etown in kills with nine, and she and Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) each led the Blue Jays in aces with three. Wasserman paced the team in assists with 23, and Kayla Kassis (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) led the Blue Jays in digs with 15.

Facing Wilkes, Kelly Downs (Airville, PA/Red Lion) led the Blue Jays in service aces with eight. Megan Monahan (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) led Etown in kills with eight and had three service aces.

The Blue Jay Classic will resume at 9:00 a.m. Saturday. Etown will face Neumann at 9:00 a.m., and Wilkes will face Ursinus at the same time. At 11:00 a.m., Scranton will take on Mitchell, while Moravian will face Wesleyan. Additional matches will be played at 1:30 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m.
