Elizabethtown Defeats Johns Hopkins 3-0, Downs Richard Stockton 3-1, on First Day of Gettysburg Battlefield Classic

GETTYSBURG, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College won both of its matches on the first day of the Gettysburg College Battlefield Classic, defeating Johns Hopkins University in three games, 30-24, 30-28, 30-18, and beating Richard Stockton College in four games, 30-28, 25-30, 30-21, 30-16. The Blue Jays’ record now stands at 4-1 overall.

In the first match of the day against Johns Hopkins, Paige Tanner (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro Area) led Elizabethtown in kills with 11, and Kate Scanlan (Milmont Park, PA/Ridley) led the Blue Jays in digs with 12. Sarah Aierstuck (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) led Etown in service aces with three, and Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) had 33 assists.

In the second match against Richard Stockton, Tanner and Kelly Downs (Airville, PA/Red Lion) led Etown in kills with 11 each. Wasserman had 35 assists, and she and Aierstuck both led the team in aces with three each. Scanlan again led Etown in digs with 18, while Aierstuck had 16 digs.

The Gettysburg Battlefield Classic will resume and conclude Saturday, September 9. Elizabethtown will face Gettysburg at 10:00 a.m., and the Blue Jays will face Seton Hill at noon.
