Elizabethtown Splits Final Day of Eastern Extravaganza, Defeats Marymount 3-1, Falls to F&M 3-1; Blue Jays Win Tournament; Downs & Scanlan Named to All-Tournament Team

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College wrapped up its regular season schedule Saturday on the final day of the Eastern University Extravaganza. The Blue Jays defeated Marymount University in four games 26-39, 30-26, 30-20, 30-23, and Elizabethtown fell in four games to Franklin & Marshall College 30-24, 30-21, 27-30, 30-19. By going 3-1 in the tournament, Elizabethtown tied host Eastern for the best record for the weekend. Because the Blue Jays defeated Eastern, Elizabethtown claimed the tournament title. The Blue Jays’ record is now 25-6 overall.

Against Marymount, Paige Tanner (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) led Etown in kills with 14, and Ashley Whitmarsh (New Castle, DE/Padua Academy) and Kelly Downs (Airville, PA/Red Lion) each had 13 kills. Downs also led the team in blocks with five, and she and setter Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) each had five service aces. Wasserman also had 43 assists and 15 digs, and Kate Scanlan (Milmont Park, PA/Ridley) led the Blue Jays in digs with 17.

Against Franklin & Marshall, Downsled Etown in kills with 11, and Tanner and Whitmarsh each had nine kills. Scanlan led Etown in digs with 18 and in service aces with two, and Tanner added 12 digs.

Two Elizabethtown players, Downs and Scanlan, were named to the All-Tournament Team of the Eastern Extravaganza.

Elizabethtown will return to action as the host of Moravian College in the first round of the Commonwealth Conference playoffs Wednesday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m.
