ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL Elizabethtown Picks Up Two Wins at CNU Invitational Box score vs. Virginia Wesleyan NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --- The Elizabethtown College volleyball team opened pool play at the two-day CNU Invitational Tournament on the campus of Christopher Newport University on Friday night. The Blue Jays defeated Virginia Wesleyan College 3-1 in their opening match on Friday (30-22, 21-30, 30-18, 30-26) and downed Nazareth College 3-1 (27-30, 30-27, 30-20, 30-25) in their second match of the evening. Against Virginia Wesleyan, senior Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) became the first player in program history to reach 4,000 career assists, finishing with 43 assists for the match to increase her career total fo 4,019. Senior Kelly Downs (Airville, PA/Red Lion) led the Blue Jays with 17 kills while sophomore Paige Tanner (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) added 13 kills and 13 digs. Wasserman added 19 digs and five service aces for Elizabethtown, and senior Kayla Kassis (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) posted a team-high 20 digs in the win. Against Nazareth, Downs led the way with 18 kills and nine digs while senior Ashley Whitmarsh (New Castle, DE/Padua Academy) posted 14 kills and sophomore Kayla Deats (Middlebury Center, PA/Wellsboro) had 13 kills. Wasserman dished out 51 assists and led the Blue Jays with 18 digs, with first-year student Allie Gold (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) registering 17 digs and Kassis adding 16. Elizabethtown (20-5 overall) will finish pool play on Saturday against Washington & Lee University before competing in a crossover match with Pool A to conclude action.
