Elizabethtown Wins First-Ever Regular-Season Conference Title With 3-0 Victory over Albright

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College volleyball team clinched its first-ever regular-season conference title with a 3-0 victory over Albright College in Commonwealth Conference action at Thompson Gymnasium on Tuesday night, by scores of 30-17, 30-12 and 30-26.

The Blue Jays (22-6 overall, 4-0 Commonwealth) wrapped up the top seed in the upcoming conference playoffs and earned their first-ever first-place finish after placing second 12 times to national powerhouse Juniata College, which departed the Commonwealth Conference following last season.

Senior Kelly Downs (Airville, PA/Red Lion) led the Blue Jays with 11 kills and three blocks in limited action, as all 16 players on the roster saw playing time and none played more than two of the three games.

Senior Ashley Whitmarsh (New Castle, DE/Padua Academy) added eight kills and six digs for Elizabethtown, while sophomore Kathy Perry (Hockessin, DE/A.I. DuPont) and first-year student Molly Northway (Cumberland, ME/Greely) recorded six kills apiece.

Senior Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) played just the first game but still led the team with 13 assists, while first-year student Kara Burkholder (Lititz, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) posted 10 assists off the bench.

Defensively, junior Corin Kidwell (Akron, PA/Ephrata) had a match-high 15 digs while first-year student Allie Gold (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) contributed 11 digs.

The Lions (3-15 overall, 0-4 Commonwealth) were led by Cassie Campbell's eight kills, while Jillian Bonitatibus added five kills and 10 digs. Lauren Higgins dished out 20 assists and Kelly Nicodemus posted a team-high 13 digs for Albright.
