ETOWN, MESSIAH WIN ON FIRST DAY OF BLUE JAY CLASSIC

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA --- Elizabethtown improved to 5-2 with a 73-59 win over Bethany (WV), while Messiah pushed its record to 8-3 with an 82-53 win over Lycoming on the first day of the Blue Jay Classic Tournament at Elizabethtown Friday. With the losses, Bethany falls to 8-3 while Lycoming drops to 4-5 overall.

Messiah vaulted to a 38-18 halftime lead over Lycoming in Friday night's first game. The Falcons spread their scoring very evenly across the team, with Amie Kretzing and Amy Hitz both leading Messiah with 11 points. Lyndy LeVan was Lycoming's only double-figure point-scorer with 19.
Elizabethtown led Bethany by as many as 35 points with 11:12 to go in the game, but Bethany crept back to reduce the Blue Jays' once-formidable lead to only ten with 1:44 remaining to play. Elizabethtown hit eight free throws in the final 1:20 to hold on to the lead.

Etown was led by Abbie Fabian (Denver, PA/Cocalico), who scored 22 points. Carmen Chiles (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) scored 12 points, putting her only 19 points away from becoming the 21st player in the history of Elizabethtown women's basketball to reach the 1,000 point plateau. Whitney Bull (Berwick, PA/Berwick) also scored 12 for Etown. Bethany's leading scorer was Jill Kamerer with 18 points.
