ETOWN, MESSIAH GO UNDEFEATED IN BLUE JAY CLASSIC

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA --- Messiah and host Elizabethtown each went 2-0 in the 2001 Blue Jay Classic tournament with wins Saturday. Messiah defeated Bethany in a rematch of last year's first-round NCAA tournament game, 81-63, to improve to 9-3 overall. With the loss, Bethany fell to 8-4 overall and 0-2 in the tournament. Etown squeaked past Lycoming, 68-63 in overtime, to improve to 6-2 overall. Lycoming fell to 4-6 on the season and 0-2 in the tournament.

Bethany's Jill Kamerer scored 20 points against Messiah and became Bethany's all time leading scorer on a jumper with 48 seconds remaining in the first half. Nicole Nacaratto also scored 20 points for Bethany. Messiah was led by Amie Kretzing and Cbristina Vouriotis, who each scored 25 points.

Lycoming overcame a 13 point halftime deficit to Elizabethtown to tie the score 59-59 by the end of regulation time. Elizabethtown came back to outscore Lycoming 9-4 in overtime and win the game. Etown was led in scoring and rebounding by Carmen Chiles (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) and Abbie Fabian (Denver, PA/Cocalico) with 16 points and nine rebounds, and 14 points and eight rebounds, respectively. Lyndy LeVan led Lycoming with 26 points and 10 rebounds.

The all tournament team comprised Bethany's Kamerer, Lycoming's LeVan, Messiah's Kretzing and Vouriotis, and Etown's Cbiles. Etown's Fabian was named the tournament MVP.

Elizabethtown returns to action on the road against Widener, Tuesday, January 9. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
