Etown Gives Nationally Ranked Johns Hopkins Second Half Scare in 67-51 Loss

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown fell to 3-11 overall with a 67-51 loss to Johns Hopkins, which is ranked 18th in the nation in the latest D3hoops.com poll and 17th in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches' of America (WBCA) poll. Johns Hopkins improves to 14-1 overall with the win.

Utilizing a full-court defense from the start of the game, Hopkins ran away with the lead in the early minutes, jumping out with a 12-0 run in the first five and a half minutes and holding a 20-5 lead by 11:19 left in the first half. From there, Elizabethtown began to creep back into the game, and by halftime Johns Hopkins held a 37-22 lead.

Elizabethtown continued to cut Hopkins' lead in the first ten minutes of the second half, pulling to within nine points mid-way through the second stanza. Hopkins held off the Blue Jay attack and ended the game with a 16-point margin of victory.

Elizabethtown and Johns Hopkins had six turnovers each in the first half, but in the second half Etown forced 10 Hopkins turnovers while Elizabethtown turned the ball over just three times. Johns Hopkins out-rebounded Elizabethtown 30-11 in the first half, but held a 23-15 rebounding advantage in the second half. Etown was out-shot 36-29 in the first half, but Etown out-shot Hopkins 35-25 in the second half.

Stephanie Scinto (Westwood, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) was Etown's only double-digit point scorer, tallying 19 points and shooting five-for-eight from three-point range. Jessica Smith (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) led Etown with eight rebounds and scored nine points, all of which came on three treys.

Ashanna Randall (Media, PA/Penncrest) came off the bench to lead Johns Hopkins with 13 points, and she shot six-for-eight from the floor. Maureen Myers (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights) scored 11 points for Hopkins on five-for-10 shooting from the floor. Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) hit all five of her shots and scored 10 points, and Jennifer Butterwei (Arnold, MD/Archbishop Spalding) led Hopkins with 10 rebounds.

Elizabethtown returns to action as host of Commonwealth Conference rival Albright for a 1:00 p.m. game Saturday, January 19.
