York Comes From Behind to Defeat Etown, 56-48

YORK, Pa. --- Despite holding a 30-18 advantage at halftime, Elizabethtown lost its lead in the second half and fell to host York College, 56-48, in a non-conference game Monday night. With the loss, Etown sinks to 4-12 while York's record improves to 11-6.

The Blue Jays embarked on an 11 point run beginning with 4:46 left in the first half, during which Jessica Smith (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) hit a pair of three-pointers and Jessica Hollinshead (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) made a pair of lay-ups, to build a 12-point lead at halftime.

York began to chip away at Etown's lead a the beginning of the second half, and the Spartans took a 45-44 lead, their first lead of the game, with just 5:27 left on the clock.

In the first half, Etown shot 37.9% (11-for-29) from the field and held York to just 21.2% (seven-for-33) shooting.

The situation was reversed in the second half, with York shooting 45.5% (10-for-22) and the Blue Jays shooting just 18.5% (five-for-27) from the floor. Of Etown's 18 turnovers, 13 came in the second half. Of York's 18 turnovers, 13 came in the first half.

Smith led Elizabethtown in scoring with 11 points and in rebounding with nine boards. Stephanie Scinto (Westwood, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) added 10 points for the Blue Jays.

Dawn Baker led York with 10 points, and Kellie Flynn had a team-high of nine rebounds.

Elizabethtown returns to action on the road against Messiah Wednesday, January 23. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
