Nationally Ranked Messiah Defeats Etown, 67-47

GRANTHAM, Pa. --- Elizabethtown fell to 4-13 overall and 2-5 in conference play with a 67-47 road loss to Commonwealth Conference rival Messiah, currently ranked 13th in the nation in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) poll and 14th in the latest D3hoops.com poll. Messiah improves to 15-2 overall and 6-1 in the conference with the win.

The host Falcons jumped out to a 30-18 halftime lead and outscored the Blue Jays 37-29 in the second half. Christina Vouriotis led Messiah with 22 points and 15 rebounds. She was Messiah's only double-digit scorer or rebounder.

Cherrissa McCoy (Trevose, PA/Bensalem) led Etown in scoring with 14 points and tied for the team lead in rebounding with Jessica Smith (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) with four rebounds. Smith scored 10 points for the Blue Jays.

Messiah out-rebounded the Blue Jays 41-25. The Falcons shot 38.6% (22-for-57) from the field, while Etown shot 38.8% (19-for-49). Etown had 15 turnovers against 12 for Messiah.

Elizabethtown returns to action on the road Saturday, January 26 against conference opponent Susquehanna. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
