ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Etown Downs Widener, 65-57, Behind Scinto's 18 Points ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Stephanie Scinto (Westwood, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) scored 18 points and hit all 12 of her foul shots to lead Elizabethtown past Widener, 65-57, at Thompson Gymnasium Tuesday night. The win halts a three game losing streak for the Blue Jays as Etown improves to 5-14 overall and 3-6 in the Commonwealth Conference. Widener falls to 6-12 overall and 2-7 in the conference with the loss. Widener jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the early minutes of the game, but Elizabethtown took over in the final 15 minutes of the second half to take a 29-20 lead over the Pioneers into halftime. Etown and Widener each had 41 rebounds, and Widener shot slightly better from the field than the Blue Jays, as the Pioneers shot 24-for-64 (37.5%), while Etown shot 21-for-60 (35.0%). Widener, however, had 13 turnovers against eight for Etown, and Etown shot 19-for-20 from the foul line, while the Pioneers went five-for-eight from the charity stripe. In addition to leading the Blue Jays in scoring, Scinto also led the team with four assists. Cherrissa McCoy (Trevose, PA/Bensalem) added 14 points for Etown and led the Blue Jays with three steals. Jessica Smith (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) canned three three-pointers en route to scoring 11 points for Etown. Jessica Hollinshead (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) came off the bench to lead Etown with eight rebounds. Nicole Stanley (West Conshohocken, PA/Upper Merion) led Widener with 20 points and hit four three-pointers in seven attempts. Erin Nemshick (York, PA/Central York) scored 12 points and led the Pioneers in rebounding and assists with 12 and five, respectively. Elizabethtown will return to action at home against Commonwealth Conference rival Juniata Saturday, February 2 for a 2:00 p.m. game. |
