ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Etown Falls 50-47 to Widener in Commonwealth Conference Opener CHESTER, Pa. --- Elizabethtown lost its 2001-02 Commonwealth Conference opener on the road to Widener Tuesday night, in a close 50-47 game that saw the lead change hands several times in the closing minutes. Cherrissa McCoy (Trevose, PA/Bensalem) led the Blue Jays with 17 points. Tameka Jackson (Philadelphia, PA/J.W. Hallahan) led Etown with 13 rebounds and posted a double-double, scoring 11 points while shooting five-for-nine from the field. As a team, Elizabethtown shot 20-for-56 from the field (35.7%), and Etown went one-for-ten from behind the arc and six-for-13 from the foul line for the game. The Etown defense held Widener to a 28.6% performance from the field. Mandy Joachim led Widener with 13 points, and Nicole Stanley added 11 points and a game-leading total of four assists. Joachim also posted 12 rebounds, and Erin Nemshick had 15 rebounds for the host Pioneers. Etown falls to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference with the loss, while Widener improves to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. Etown returns to action at home Saturday, December 8 for its final game before winter break. The Blue Jays will host Susquehanna at 1:00 p.m. |
