Etown Wins Second in a Row with 69-61 Victory over York

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown won its second straight game Monday night with a 69-61 home win over York. With the win, Etown improved to 5-12 overall. York drops to 8-9 overall with the non-conference loss.

Elizabethtown took an early lead over York as the Blue Jays shot over 55% from the field for the first 15 minutes of the game. By halftime, however, York had tied the score at 30-30, as Etown's first half shooting percentage dropped to 42.9% (12-for-28) and York hit 11 of 14 free throws. Etown, by contrast, had just four free throws in the first half and made three of them.

Etown and York traded leads several times during the second half, with Elizabethtown pulling away for good in the closing minutes.

Jessica Hollinshead (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) led Etown in scoring with 19 points, in steals with four, and in blocked shots with three. She shot eight-for-14 from the floor for the game. Cristin Braun (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan), one of four freshmen to start for Etown in the game, posted a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 13 rebounds while tying for the team lead with four assists. Also getting four assists were freshman Jamie Nace (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata), who had seven points and seven rebounds as well, and junior Cherrissa McCoy (Trevose, PA/Bensalem), who played for the first time in five games after coming back from an injury. Sophomore Jennifer Roberts (Eagleville, PA/Methacton) scored 10 points on four-for-seven shooting, had three steals, blocked two shots, and pulled down six rebounds while coming off the bench for Etown.

Greta Schmidt led York in scoring with 14 points. Ashley Robertson scored 12 points, and Heather Kessler and Mandy Crabbs each scored 10 points for the Spartans. Crabbs also led York with 14 rebounds.

Elizabethtown will return to action Wednesday, January 29 at home against Commonwealth Conference rival Messiah in a 7:00 p.m. game.
