Etown Runs Winning Streak to Six Straight, Defeats FDU-Florham 70-52 and University of the Virgin Islands 70-46 in St. Thomas

ST. THOMAS, U.S.V.I. --- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team stretched its current winning streak -- its longest since the 2000-01 season -- to six games after defeating FDU-Florham 70-52 and the University of the Virgin Islands 70-46 in the Sunsational Hoops Classic Sunday and Monday at UVI.

Against FDU-Florham Sunday, Jessica Smith (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) posted her highest point total in two years, leading the Blue Jays with 19 points. She shot seven-for-12 from the field and went four-for-six from three-point range, and she made four steals to tie for the team lead with Dana Voit (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson). Jessica Hollinshead (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to tie for the team lead with Voit and Cristin Braun (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan), who also totaled 12 points. Jen Roberts (Eagleville, PA/Methacton) added 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds, and Voit scored eight points.

Facing the University of the Virgin Islands Monday, Etown struggled in the first half, taking a 24-22 lead into halftime, but the Blue Jays buried UVI in the second half, outscoring the hosts 46-24. Hollinshead and Voit led Etown in scoring with 16 points each, and Hollinshead also led the team in rebounds with 14. Voit made four out of five three-point attempts, shot six-for-seven from the field and pulled down six rebounds. Smith added 13 points, and Roberts scored 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Braun had nine rebounds as well.

Etown will return to action as the host of the Blue Jay Classic Friday, January 9 and Saturday, January 10. Participating teams include Alvernia College, Buffalo State College, and Messiah College.
