ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Messiah and Lycoming Mount Comeback Wins on Opening Night of Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The courses of both games on the opening night of the Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Classic Friday were remarkably similar. In the first game of the evening, nationally ninth-ranked Messiah College overcame a 30-26 halftime deficit to defeat Washington & Jefferson College 67-45. In the second game, Lycoming College, which trailed host Elizabethtown 38-20 at the half, came back to win 61-58. Messiah is now 11-0 overall, Washington & Jefferson is 9-3 overall, Lycoming is 4-5 overall, and Etown is 3-5 overall. In the first game, Washington & Jefferson shot 58.3% (14-for-24) from the field in the first half, but only 26.3% (5-for-19) from the field in the second half. Leigh Sulkowski was the Presidents' leading scorer with 18 points, 16 of which came in the first half. Lauren Slampak scored 10 points for Washington & Jefferson. Messiah's leading scorer was Eli Cook with 17 points and eight rebounds. Marita Rydell added 13 points and four steals, and Kristin Sassaman scored 10 points for the Falcons. In the second game, Etown shot 44.1% (15-for-34) from the field in the first half and just 29.6% (8-for-27) in the second half, while Lycoming went 33.3% (8-for-24) from the field in the first half and 58.6% (17-for-29) in the second. Dana Voit (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) led Etown in scoring with 16 points, and she hit four three-pointers and pulled down five rebounds. Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Co.) scored 14 points and had five rebounds, and Cristin Braun (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) scored 11 points, pulled down six rebounds, and led Etown in steals with three. Amy Kile was Lycoming's leading scorer with 14 points, and Danielle Kern added 11 points for the Warriors. Lycoming will face Messiah at 1:00 p.m. and Etown will take on Washington & Jefferson at 3:00 p.m. on the final day of the Blue Jay Classic Saturday. At Thompson Gymnasium, Elizabethtown, Pa.
