ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Messiah and Washington & Jefferson Win on Final Day of Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Messiah College and Washington & Jefferson College emerged as the winners on the second day of the Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Classic Saturday. Messiah defeated Lycoming College 80-48 in the day's first game, while Washington & Jefferson downed Elizabethtown 64-49 in the second game. Messiah is now 12-0 overall, while Lycoming is 4-5, Washington & Jefferson is 10-3, and Elizabethtown is 3-6. Kristin Sassaman led Messiah in scoring with 23 points and hit four three pointers in the first game, while Eli Cook shot 7-for-12 from the field, scored 20 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and led the Falcons in steals with four. Sarah Ringer added 12 points and shot 8-for-8 from the free throw line for Messiah, and Marita Rydell pulled down seven reboudns, made three steals, and scored five points. Rebecca Pugh led Lycoming in scoring with nine points on 4-for-7 shooting from the field, and Danielle Kern added six points and led the Warriors in rebounds with seven. Colleen Wade added eight points, pulled down five rebounds, and had three steals for Lycoming as well. In the second game, Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Co.) led Etown in scoring with 14 points, and she grabbed five rebounds. Dana Voit (Jefferson Mills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) totaled 12 points on four three-pointers for Etown, and she pulled down four rebounds. The Blue Jays' leading rebounder was Jen Roberts (Eagleville, PA/Methacton) with 10 rebounds, and she led Etown in steals with seven and in assists with three while scoring nine points. Cristin Braun (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) also scored nine points for the Blue Jays, and she grabbed six rebounds and made three steals. Leigh Sulkowski scored almost half of Washington & Jefferson's points with 28 as she shot 12-for-14 from the field, and she grabbed eight rebounds and led all players in the game in blocked shots with four. Lauren Slampak added 11 points for Washington & Jefferson, and she led the Presidents in rebounds with 11. Cook from Messiah was the 2005 Blue Jay Classic Most Valuable Player, and the All-Tournament team consisted of Voit from Elizabethtown, Wade from Lycoming, Rydell from Messiah, and Sulkowski and Slampak from Washington & Jefferson.
