ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Widener Downs Elizabethtown 68-53; Roberts Pulls Down Career-Best 15 Rebounds CHESTER, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team dropped to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in the Commonwealth Conference with a 68-53 Saturday road loss to Widener University, which improved to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference with the win. Widener out-rebounded Etown 47-37, but Widener turned the ball over 22 times against 17 turnovers for Etown. The Blue Jays swiped the ball from Widener 16 times over the course of the game. Widener committed just eight fouls over the entire game, and Etown converted just two of five free throw attemts, while Widener went 10-for-13 from the charity stripe on 12 Etown fouls. Etown shot 33.3% (23-for-69) from the field, while Widener went 44.3% (27-for-61). Junior Dana Voit (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) and senior Jen Roberts (Eagleville, PA/Mehtacton) led Etown in scoring with 13 points each, and Roberts pulled down a career-best total of 15 rebounds to led all players in the game. Cristin Braun (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) added 12 points and four steals for Etown. Five Widener players reached double digits in scoring, including Nicole Stanley and Celeste Baumgardner, who each scored 14 points. Baumgardner totaled a team high of 12 rebounds, while Stanley led Widener in assists with six and steals with five, and she grabbed nine rebounds. Dominique Kidd added 12 points and six rebounds, Kelli Murphy had 11 points, and Chelsea Luhta scored 10 points, pulled down seven rebounds and had five assists for Widener. Etown will return to action at home Tuesday, January 18 against conference rival Messiah College in a 7:00 p.m. game. At Schwartz Athletic Center, Chester, Pa. |
