ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Elizabethtown Defeats Albright 54-44 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown shook off a rusty start to defeat Albright College 54-44 at home Saturday and improve to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in the Commonwealth Conference. Albright drops to 4-15 overall and 1-7 in the conference with the loss. Albright, however, made 32 turnovers over the course of the game while Etown made just 12, allowing the Blue Jays to stay close. With an 11-for-33 (33.3%) performance from the field in the second half, the Blue Jays were able to take the lead and go up by 10 points by the end of the game. Etown held a 15-7 edge in offensive rebounds and stole the ball from Albright 14 times over the course of the game. The Blue Jays also converted 16 of 22 free throw attempts over the game, while Albright made nine of 12 attempts from the line. Blue Jay first-year student Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Co.) led Etown in scoring with 15 points, in steals with four, and in assists with four. Fellow first-year Amanda Reid (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) led the Blue Jays in rebounds with 12, and she scored 11 points while shooting 4-for-6 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. Junior Cristin Braun (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) scored 10 points, all of which came in the second half, pulled down six rebounds and blocked a pair of shots for Etown. Staci Waligorski led Albright in points with 11 and in rebounds with 10. Jacqueline Hardwick added 10 points and six rebounds for Albright. Etown will return to action Tuesday, February 1 on the road against Susquehanna University in a 6:00 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game. At Thompson Gymnasium, Elizabethtown, Pa. |
