Elizabethtown Falls To Alvernia 61-50 in Season Opener at Marymount Tournament

ARLINGTON, Va. --- Elizabethtown College lost its 2004-05 season opener 61-50 to defending Pennsylvania Athletic Conference champion and 2004 NCAA Division III tournament participant Alvernia College Friday in the opening round of the Marymount University Tip-Off Tournament.

Alvernia out-rebounded the Blue Jays 42-34 and out-shot Etown 62-56 from the field over the course of the game. The Blue Jays shot 35.7% (20-for-56) from the field, while Alvernia shot 43.5% (27-for-62) from the floor.

Dana Voit (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) led Etown in scoring with 15 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field, and she grabbed five rebounds. Etown's top rebounder was senior Jen Roberts (Eagleville, PA/Methacton), who totaled six boards and scored 11 poitns while shooting 4-for-8 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. First-year Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Co.) came off the bench in her collegiate debut to score 11 points and pull down five rebounds in 24 minutes of scoring time while shooting 5-for-12 from the floor.

Kacie Androsko was Alvernia's top scorer with 14 points, and she had eight rebounds. Alvernia's top rebounder was Trish O'Gurek with 11 boards and 12 points.

Etown will face tournament host Marymount in the second round Saturday, November 20 at 1:00 p.m.
