Elizabethtown Head Coach Yvonne Kauffman Becomes First Female Women's Basketball Coach in NCAA Division III to Reach 600 Career Wins as Blue Jays Trounce Immaculata 91-38

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College head coach Yvonne Kauffman became the first female head coach and second coach overall in NCAA Division III women's basketball to reach the 600 career win plateau Wednesday night as Elizabethtown blew out Immaculata University 91-38 at home.

Elizabethtown (3-4) set the tone for the game in the opening 45 seconds as Megan Wolfe (Jonestown, PA/Northern Lebanon) hit a pair of three-pointers to give the Blue Jays a 6-0 lead. Immaculata (2-4) stuck close to the Blue Jays for the game's first three minutes, pulling to within three points of Etown at 17:39 when a Meg Legere (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) layup cut the Blue Jay lead to 10-7. From there, however, Elizabethtown let loose a scoring barrage the likes of which had not been seen in Thompson Gymnasium in years, going on a 30-0 run over the next 12 minutes to boost their lead to 40-7. By halftime, the Blue Jays had plowed ahead to a 47-10 lead.

Etown outscored Immaculata 44-28 over the course of the second half as well as the Blue Jays' shooting actually heated up in the second half. Etown shot 54.5% (18-for-33) from the field and 4-for-8 (50%) from three-point range in the second half, against 20-for-44 (45.5%) from the field and 4-for-11 (36.4%) from behind the arc in the first half. Immaculata shot 30.4% (14-for-46) from the field over the course of the game and made just four field goals in the first half. The Blue Jays held a 40-32 advantage in rebounds, and Etown committed only nine turnovers against 26 Immaculata turnovers.

All 14 Elizabethtown players who appeared in the game scored at least two points. Jen Roberts (Eagleville, PA/Methacton) and Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington County) each led the Blue Jays in scoring with 14 points. Roberts shot 7-for-10 from the field, while Walton was 6-for-9 from the floor and 2-for-2 from downtown. Wolfe made every shot she took in the game, going 3-for-3 from three-point range and 2-for-2 from the free throw line to tally 11 points for Etown. Cristin Braun (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) added eight points and seven rebounds, and Christina Buso (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) scored eight points as well for the Blue Jays. Etown's top rebounder was Audrey Hitz (Lebanon, PA/Annville-Cleona) with 10 rebounds and five points.

Jamie Williams (Miinersville, PA/Nativity BVM) led Immaculata in scoring with 13 points, and she pulled down seven rebounds. Legere finished the game with 10 points for Immaculata.

Elizabethtown will now take nearly a month off and return to action when it hosts its annual Blue Jay Classic January 7 and 8, 2005.
