Susquehanna Blasts Elizabethtown 63-46

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown fell on the road Tuesday night to Commonwealth Conference rival Susquehanna University 63-46. No Blue Jay player scored more than nine points in the game, and Susquehanna (9-6, 2-3 conference) stormed out to a 33-17 lead by halftime. Elizabethtown (5-8, 1-4 conference) shot 30% (18-for-60) from the field, 15.4% (2-for-13) from three-point range, and 53.3% (8-for-15) from the free throw line, while Susquehanna shot 21-for-51 (41.2%) from the field, 4-for-10 (40%) from behind the arc, and 17-for-21 (81%) from the free throw line. The host Crusaders held a 45-36 advantage in rebounds, while Elizabethtown had a 12-10 edge in steals and turned the ball over fewer times than Susquehanna, 16-19.

Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark’s) came off the bench to lead Elizabethtown in scoring with nine points in 15 minutes. She shot 3-for-6 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. Coming off the bench to score seven points for Etown was Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor), who shot 2-for-2 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Co.) was Etown’s top rebounder with nine, and she added six points.

Ruth Williamson was Susquehanna’s top scorer with 14 points from off the bench, and she grabbed five rebounds. Val Houseal added 13 points from off the bench and led Susquehanna in rebounds with six. Jen Clark scored 11 points, had five assists and five rebounds for the Crusaders, and Sarah Jane Kalejta scored 10 points, had four assists, five rebounds and three steals.

Elizabethtown will return to action at home Saturday, January 21 when it hosts conference rival Moravian College, which is currently ranked 16th in the nation in the latest D3hoops.com poll, in a 2:00 p.m. game.
