Elizabethtown Falls 76-64 to Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- A 76-64 road setback to Commonwealth Conference rival Juniata College Wednesday night dropped Elizabethtown to 7-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference, while Juniata improved to 11-5 overall and 2-3 in the Commonwealth with the victory.

Elizabethtown trailed by 10 points, 40-30, at halftime, but the Blue Jays stayed in the game throughout the second half, and with 4:55 left in the game, Etown sophomore Mell Fitzpatrick (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg Area) drained a three-pointer to cut Juniata’s lead to five points, 65-60. However, Juniata hit two unanswered three-pointers over next minute and a half as part of a 9-0 run to put the game away.

Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Co.) led Elizabethtown in scoring with 22 points. Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) added 10 points, five rebounds and a game-high total of five steals. Fitzpatrick finished the game with eight points and three assists from off the bench. Audrey Hitz (Lebanon, PA/Annville-Cleona) led Elizabethtown in rebounds with six while scoring five points.

Kelly Ashcraft led Juniata with 20 points and 13 rebounds, while Jess Winemiller added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Steph Hatch scored 18 points from off the bench for Juniata, and Courtney Callas added 14 points from off the bench. Juniata’s bench contributed 40 points against 18 points for the Elizabethtown bench.

Elizabethtown will return to action on the road against Moravian College in a 4:00 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
