ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Juniata Holds On For 63-57 Victory Over Elizabethtown In Non-Conference Matchup ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Kelly Ashcraft netted a game-high 18 points while Claudia McDowell added 15 points and eight rebounds as Juniata College picked up a 63-57 victory over Elizabethtown College in non-conference women's basketball action at Thompson Gymnasium on Tuesday evening. Jen Hnatuck also reached double figures with 12 points and five rebounds for the Eagles (7-5 overall), who withstood a pair of runs by the Blue Jays (6-4 overall) to come away with the victory. Junior Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) finished with team highs of 14 points and six rebounds for Elizabethtown, while junior Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) added a career-best 13 points to go with four steals. However, the Blue Jays were plagued by 31 turnovers and shot just 1-for-17 from three-point range as a team. Juniata led by as many as eight points in the first half, but Elizabethtown went on 10-0 run over the final 3:35 to take a 25-23 lead into halftime. Ashcraft led all players with 11 points in the opening half for Juniata, while senior Audrey Hitz (Lebanon, PA/Annville-Cleona) paced the Blue Jays with six points and three rebounds. In the second half, Juniata opened with a 14-2 run to take a 37-27 lead on a three-pointer by Jill Walsh with 16:10 left to play. The Eagles led 47-35 with 7:44 remaining following a fast-break hoop by McDowell, but the Blue Jays scored the next 10 points capped by back-to-back breakaway layups by Quinn to cut the Juniata lead to 47-45 with 5:09 to go. However, Juniata responded with a basket by Kelly Rotan and a three-point play by Ashcraft to move ahead 52-45 with 3:06 to go. Elizabethtown would pull to as close as three points with 1:29 to go, but Juniata went 9-for-10 from the foul line in the final 45 seconds to seal the win. Hitz also reached double figures for the Blue Jays with 10 points and six rebounds, while junior Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) came off the bench to add nine points and four rebounds in 20 minutes of action.
