Elizabethtown Falls 73-59 to FDU-Florham in Season Opener at Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. --- Emily Cerankowski scored 19 points while Kate Daly added 18 points and seven boards as FDU-Florham defeated Elizabethtown College 73-59 in the opening round of the Mike Durgala Memorial Tournament on the campus of Johns Hopkins University on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington County) scored a game-high 27 points to move into eighth place on the Blue Jay career scoring list with 1,320 points, but Etown (0-1 overall) shot just 30 percent from the field including 1-for-18 from three-point range.

The Blue Jays will play Wesley College in Sunday's consolation game at 1:00 p.m. after the Wolverines lost to host Johns Hopkins 79-65 in Saturday's other first-round contest.

Walton, who entered the day ranked 11th in program history in scoring, moved past Sherri Kinsey '84 (1,310 points), Shauntae Stancil '99 (1,313 points) and Kim Boback '99 (1,320 points) on the career scoring list.

The teams exchanged the lead several times in the early minutes of the game before the Devils (1-0 overall) went on a 14-4 run to take a 27-16 lead with 8:01 left in the first half on a three-pointer by Cerankowski.

FDU-Florham led 35-28 at halftime, but the Blue Jays pulled within one at 37-36 on a foul shot by senior Audrey Hitz (Lebanon, PA/Annville-Cleona) with 15:37 left. Etown moved back within a point at 49-48 on a basket by Walton with 7:05 to go and trailed 57-54 with 3:29 to play, but the Devils took command with an 11-1 run to go ahead 68-55 with 1:22 left.

Daly went 7-for-8 from the foul line in the final two minutes, while the Devils as a team hit 11-of-14 at the stripe over the last 3:29 of the contest and went 23-for-31 overall in the game.

Hitz joined Walton in double figures for the Blue Jays with 15 points and six rebounds, while senior Amanda Reid (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) added a team-high nine rebounds. Danielle Michlovsky pulled a game-high 10 boards for the Devils and Shealyn Taggart added 10 points and nine boards off the bench.
