ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Blue Jays Hold Off Susquehanna, 70-64 SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College hit six foul shots in the final 37 seconds to break a 64-64 tie and earn a 70-64 victory at Susquehanna University in non-conference women's basketball action on Tuesday evening. Senior Audrey Hitz (Lebanon, PA/Annville-Cleona) hit the tiebreaking foul shots with 36.4 seconds left while junior Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) added four foul shots in the closing seconds for the Blue Jays (3-2 overall), who went 23-for-27 from the free-throw line in the contest as a team. Senior Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) and first-year student Kaity Snyder (Catawissa, PA/Southern Columbia) tied for the game high in scoring with 14 points apiece for the Blue Jays, while Hitz added 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds and Romano tied her career high with 12 points to go with six assists. Bri McNallen led the Crusaders with 13 points and five rebounds, while Leigh Henderson added 11 points and five boards and Erika Barron finished with 10 points and four assists. Elizabethtown led 59-45 with 9:38 to play following a basket by Quinn, but the Crusaders (4-2 overall) went on a 15-1 run to tie the score at 60-60 on two foul shots by Barron with 3:21 left. Romano hit two foul shots with 3:06 remaining to restore Etown's two-point lead at 62-60, but Barron hit a driving layup with 2:47 to go to equalize the score at 62-62. A running layup by Ruth Williamson with 2:01 left put Susquehanna ahead 64-62, but Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) answered in the paint with 1:42 left to even the score at 62-62. Hitz hit two foul shots with 36.4 seconds left to give Elizabethtown a 66-64 lead, and came up with a steal with 25 seconds to go as Susquehanna looked for the tying basket. Romano added two free throws with 21.8 seconds left and nailed two more with 12.7 seconds left to extend the Blue Jay lead to 70-64. Susquehanna stormed out to an early 12-4 lead in the game's first five minutes, but the Blue Jays rallied to cut the Crusader deficit to 13-12 with 10:46 remaining in the first half. Elizabethtown took its first lead at 20-19 on a layup by Snyder with 6:33 left in the half, part of an 18-2 run that gave the Blue Jays a 32-21 lead with 3:34 left in the first half. The Blue Jays led 40-26 at intermission behind a game-high 12 points from Snyder, while Quinn added 11 points. Houseal led the Crusaders with nine points in the opening half, but Susquehanna shot just 26.3 percent (10-for-38) from the field as a team. Overall, Susquehanna shot 30.4 percent (21-for-69) from the field and 7-for-28 from three-point range, while Elizabethtown hit 34.8 percent (23-for-66) from the floor. The Blue Jays finished with a 57-42 advantage in rebounding over the Crusaders. Montague finished with nine points and six rebounds off the Elizabethtown bench, as the Blue Jay subs outscored the Crusader reserves by a 28-19 margin. Senior Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington County) battled foul trouble throughout the evening for Elizabethtown, and scored just four points before fouling out with 4:57 remaining.
