HOT-SHOOTING JAYS STOP MORAVIAN 75-55 FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN; WESSEL LEADS THE CHARGE WITH 21 POINTS

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Brenda Wessel scored 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting and added nine rebounds to lead Elizabethtown past Moravian 75-55 in MAC Commonwealth League action on Saturday. The win improved Etown's record to 10-4 overall (6-1 Commonwealth League) and extended their winning streak to four games.

Shauntae Stancil scored 16 points while teammate Kim Boback chipped in with 15 points for the Blue Jays, who saw their 14-point halftime lead cut to five before taking over down the stretch.

Trailing 38-24 at the half, Moravian (8-7, 2-5) went on an 15-6 run keyed by seven points from Leahn Agnew and six points from LaJona Johnson to pull the Greyhounds within 42-37 with 12:35 remaining.

Etown, however, reeled off 14 of the next 15 points, including six from Stancil, to take a commanding 57-40 lead en route to the victory.

Johnson led the Greyhounds with 17 points and eight rebounds while Agnew collected 14 points and eight boards. The Blue Jays shot 30-for-51 (58.9 percent) from the field on the day while holding Moravian to 37.3 percent from the floor.

With the win, Elizabethtown head coach Yvonne Kauffman is four victories shy of 500 for her women's basketball coaching career. Kauffman, the second-winningest active coach in Division III women's basketball, boasts a career record of 496-158.

The Jays next take the court on Tuesday, January 27 at Messiah College. Game time is 7 p.m. Etown beat the Falcons, 85-50, in their previous meeting this season.
