SCRANTON ROLLS TO 73-57 WIN OVER ETOWN IN KEY REGIONAL MATCHUP

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Four Royals scored in double figures as Scranton stormed out of the locker room and went on to a 73-57 win over Elizabethtown in Middle Atlantic Conference action on Saturday.

Kelly Halpin scored 17 points while Leanne Lefkowski added 15 points and teammate Shannon Milder collected 12 points and ten rebounds to help the Royals improve to 16-4 on the year. Scranton, which beat the Blue Jays twice last year, entered the contest ranked second in the Mid-Atlantic Region.Etown (12-6) entered the game ranked fourth in the region.

Brenda Wessel led all scorers with 18 points for Etown while Abbie Fabian chipped in with 16 points on 8-for-12 shooting.

Leading 37-33 at halftime, Scranton scored eight of the first ten points of the second half to push the lead to double digits at 45-35 with 16:19 remaining.

Etown cut the Scranton lead to 52-45 with 12:33 remaining on a bucket from Kim Boback, but the Royals went on a 13-4 run in the next 5:33, fueled by five points from Lefkowski, to take a 65-49 lead with seven minutes to play en route to the win.

Scranton outrebounded the Blue Jays 43-27 on the evening and took 16 more free throws than their hosts. Etown shot just 11-for-30 from the field in the second half.

The Blue Jays next take the court on Tuesday, February 10 in a key Commonwealth League matchup with Lebanon Valley. Game time at Thompson Gym is 7 p.m. Etown coach Yvonne Kauffman remains two wins shy of 500 for her women's basketball coaching career.
