KAUFFMAN ONE WIN FROM 500 AS BLUE JAYS DROP LEBANON VALLEY, 77-58

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Four Blue Jays scored in double figures as Elizabethtown defeated Lebanon Valley 77-58 in Middle Atlantic Conference action on Tuesday, moving head coach Yonnie Kauffman to 499 career women's basketball coaching victories. With Messiah's loss at Susquehanna, the win also gave the Blue Jays (13-6, 9-2) a two-game lead in the Commonwealth League.

Brenda Wessel led all scorers with 16 points and moved from sixth to third on Etown's all-time scoring list with 1,368 career points. Abbie Fabian added 14 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and three assists in the winning effort.

Tricia Rudis had 12 points to lead Lebanon Valley (13-6, 6-5) while teammate Melissa Brecht chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds.

Etown led 27-22 with 5:34 left in the first half, before six different Blue Jays scored during a 11-2 run to close out the half. Wessel scored ten of her sixteen points after halftime and Fabian added eight of her 14 after the intermission as Lebanon Valley could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

An 11-1 run midway through the second half, keyed by five points from Carmen Chiles pushed the Etown advantage to 67-47 with 7:31 remaining.

Gina Kaiser added another double-double for Etown while Jen Still scored six points and added eight rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench. Point guard Allison Lucey, the Conference's assists leader, dished out seven assists for the Blue Jays.

Kauffman's first shot at 500 Division III coaching victories comes on Thursday against Western Maryland College in Westminster, Md. Game time is 7:30 p.m. She would become the second coach in the history of Division III women's basketball to surpass 500 victories, joining Philip Kahler of St. John Fisher.
