ETOWN OPENS WEST COAST SWING WITH 71-48 WIN AT WHITTIER; JAYS' DEFENSE KEYS SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN
WHITTIER, Ca. --- Shauntae Stancil (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) led three players in double figures with 14 points as Elizabethtown defeated Whittier (Cal.), 71-48, to extend its winning streak to six games. The Blue Jays, who were playing for the first time since December 11, improved to 8-1 on the season.Abbie Fabian (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) scored 12 points and added a team-high eight rebounds while Kim Boback (Croydon, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) pitched in with ten points. Backup center Jamie Porter (Glenolden, Pa./Merion Mercy) scored a career-best six points in the win.
Whittier's Jennifer Melena led all scorers with 20 points while teammate Kim Taylor added ten points.
Etown led only 27-20 at halftime, but shot 20-for-30 (66.7 percent) after the break to cruise to the win. The Blue Jay defense held Whittier to 18-for-57 (31.6 percent) shooting for the game and also forced 30 turnovers.
Etown, currently ranked 23rd in Division III
by Columbus Multimedia, returns to action on Friday, January 8 against
Vassar (N.Y.) College at Whittier. Game time is 7 p.m. EST.
The Blue Jays need 11 more wins to become the first women's basketball
program in NCAA history to record 800 all-time victories.
