BLUE JAYS BREAK MAYSER JINX WITH 74-48 WIN AT FRANKLIN & MARSHALL; ETOWN PUSHES WINNING STREAK TO TEN

LANCASTER, Pa. --- Carmen Chiles (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) scored 16 of her  game-high 20 points in the second half and the Elizabethtown defense forced 29 turnovers as the Blue Jays defeated Franklin & Marshall, 74-48, in non-league action on Monday.  With the win, Etown improved to 12-1 on the season and won for the first time in its last six trips to Mayser Center.

Current MAC Commonwealth League Player of the Week Abbie Fabian (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) added 14 points while Allison Lucey (Bethlehem, Pa./Notre Dame) collected ten points and four assists to help the Blue Jays win their tenth straight game, the program's longest winning streak since the 1994-95 season.  Etown jumped from 22nd to 13th in the latest Columbus Multimedia national Division III rankings released on Monday.

Amy Kreitz led the way for the Diplomats with ten points and 11 rebounds while teammate Lauren Howanski added six points and ten boards.  Judy Stauber and Jen Gibbon tossed in nine points apiece for F&M, which fell to 7-7 on the season.

The game was close through most of the first half before the Blue Jays went on a 7-0 run in the last 2:07 to gain some breathing room.

Leading 24-21, Fabian drilled a jumper from the wing and Andrea Thompson (West Lawn, Pa./Holy Name) converted a breakaway layup to put Etown ahead 28-21 with 1:17 left before halftime.  Jamie Porter (Glenolden, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy), who finished with a career-high seven points in 21 solid minutes off the bench, sank one of two free throws before Shauntae Stancil (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) knocked down a jumper off the glass as time expired to give the Jays a 31-21 edge heading into the locker room.

Etown stretched its advantage to 47-27 with a 16-6 run in the first six minutes of the second half.  After taking two early fouls and sitting out the final 13 minutes of the first half, Chiles keyed the backbreaking run with six of her 16 second-half points.  Kim Boback (Croydon, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) chipped in with six of her eight points during that stretch and moved into a tie for 14th place on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,125 career points.

Etown had lost its last five games at F&M, dating back to an 80-68 victory at the Mayser Center in the 1988 Middle Atlantic Conference championship game.

The Blue Jays need seven more victories to become the first women's basketball program in NCAA history with 800 all-time wins.  Etown returns to MAC Commonwealth League action on Wednesday, January 20 at Juniata College.  Game time is 7 p.m.
