CHILES HAS CAREER DAY AS ETOWN DOWNS SUSQUEHANNA, 82-68, IN FIRST ROUND OF BLUE JAY CLASSIC; JAYS WILL FACE GOUCHER IN FINALS

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Carmen Chiles (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) scored a career-high 27 points on 11-for-16 shooting and Kim Boback (Croydon, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) added 18 points to lead Elizabethtown over Susquehanna, 82-68, in the first round of the Blue Jay Classic on Friday.  With the win, which also counts in the MAC Commonwealth League standings, the Blue Jays improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Abbie Fabian (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) scored 13 points and added six assists for Etown, which will face Goucher in the championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m.  The Gophers defeated Chestnut Hill, 64-54, in night's first game.

Kristen Venne led the way for Susquehanna (2-2, 1-1) with 18 points while Sandy Jenkin added 14 points and Karyn Kern chipped in with 13 points and a team-best eight rebounds.  The Crusaders will face Chestnut Hill in the consolation game at 1 p.m.

With 16:56 remaining, a jumper by Karrah Henry gave Susquehanna its last lead of the game at 44-43.  The Blue Jays then went on a 13-4 run, keyed by six points from Chiles, to take a 56-48 edge with 12 minutes left.

The Crusaders edged to within 66-62 with 5:24 left, but Etown scored 12 of the next 16 points to improve to 36-0 at home against MAC Commonwealth League opposition.  The Blue Jay program is just 15 victories shy of becoming the first in the history of NCAA women's basketball to record 800 all-time victories.
