BLUE JAYS CRUISE TO 76-55 WIN OVER GOUCHER IN CLASSIC CHAMPIONSHIP; CHILES EARNS MVP NOD

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. ---  Shauntae Stancil (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) scored 15 points and added six rebounds to lead Elizabethtown past Goucher, 76-55, in the championship game of the Blue Jay Classic on Saturday.  With the win, the Blue Jays won their tournament for the third time in the Classic's four-year history and improved to 5-1 on the season.

In the consolation game, Susquehanna rolled over Chestnut Hill, 94-40, on the strength of 31 points from Karyn Kern and 21 points from Kristen Venne.

Etown's Carmen Chiles (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) scored 13 points and was named the tournament's most valuable player thanks in part to a career-high 27 point performance in an 82-68 win over Susquehanna on Friday night.  Abbie Fabian (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) turned in her fourth double-double of the season with ten points and ten rebounds and was also named to the all-tournament squad.

Kim Rogers scored 16 points for Goucher (1-4) and earned all-tournament honors.

The Blue Jays were in command of the championship game from the start, opening a 17-2 lead with 13:32 left in the first half on the strength of six points apiece from Chiles and Stancil.

A jumper from Shannon Towner pulled the Gophers within 23-15 with 9:33 left in the half, but Chiles scored on a highlight-reel layup and three-point specialist Jesse Goldstein buried a pair of treys to give the Jays a 31-15 cushion with six minutes remaining.

Etown then closed out the half with a 17-4 run to take a 48-19 lead into the locker room.

The Blue Jays are now 14 victories shy of becoming the first women's basketball program in NCAA history to record 800 all-time victories.  Etown returns to action on Wednesday, December 9 at Widener University.  Game time is 7 p.m.
