ETOWN SINKS WIDENER, 70-58

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown defeated Widener, previously the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth's lone first-place team, 70-58, at home Tuesday night. Widener's record drops to 3-1 in the MAC Commonwealth with the loss, and Elizabethtown's conference record improves to 3-1.

Widener jumped out to an 8-0 lead, but Elizabethtown managed to tie the game at 20-20 in the middle of the first period and never looked back, retaining the lead for the rest of the game.

Leading Etown (8-2 overall) in scoring and rebounding was Abbie Fabian (Denver, PA/Cocalico) with 18 points and 12 boards. Fabian also went eight for eight from the foul line. Jesse Goldstein (Robbinsville, NJ/Lawrence) scored 14 points for the Blue Jays, including 12 in the first half, and Carmen Chiles (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) overcame early struggling to finish with 13 points.

Lauren Potchak (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) led Widener (7-5 overall) with 16 points and went eight for eight from the foul line. Melanie Weindel (Glenolden, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) scored 13 points and led the Pioneers with 11 rebounds, and Corinne Gawason (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) scored 14 points.

Etown returns to action on the road against Bryn Mawr Thursday, January 13. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
