ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S LACROSSE Etown Opens Season with 21-8 Thrashing of MAC Rival Wilkes ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team opened its second season of competition with the biggest display of offensive might ever put on at Etown's Sofsport® field, defeating Middle Atlantic Conference rival Wilkes 21-8 Saturday. Wilkes played its first-ever varsity contest after spending the 2002 season as a club team. Etown, by contrast, jumped straight to varsity status in its first season last year without any incubation period as a club. Etown jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first half. Liz Fretz (Parkerford, PA/Owen J. Roberts) scored each of Etown's first two goals in the opening four minutes of the game, and she finished with a team high of six goals. She also had three assists for a team-best total of nine points. Ally Edel (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll School) led the Blue Jays with four assists, and she had one goal for five points. She also scooped up three ground balls and had four draw controls. Jen Manns (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) scored four goals and had two assists for six points for the Blue Jays, and Amanda Simpson (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen) scored three goals with one assist for four points. Dana White (Freeland, MD/Hereford) added three goals for Etown, and Jackie Brenton (Laurel, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) had one goal and three assists for four points, as well as three ground balls. Sarah Scholl (Forest Hill, MD/John Carroll School) led Etown in draw controls with six, ground balls with four, and she caused a team-high three Wilkes turnovers, all while scoring a goal an pitching in an assist. Etown goaltender Lisa Marquette (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) played the first official lacrosse game of her life and made six saves. Maria Currier and Kathryn Currier each led Wilkes in scoring with two goals, and Maria Currier had four draw controls.
