Etown Improves to 2-0 with 15-5 Win over Puget Sound

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 2-0 in 2003 with a 15-5 win over Puget Sound (WA) at home Tuesday. Puget Sound, which is in the midst of a swing through New Jersey and Pennsylvania, dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

Etown shot out to an 8-0 lead in just over 12 minutes, but did not score again for the remainder of the first half, carrying an 8-2 lead into halftime. Etown also erupted for four goals in the final eight minutes of the game.

Jen Manns (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) led Etown's scoring with five goals. Liz Fretz (Parkerford, PA/Owen J. Roberts) added three goals and led the team with three assists, and Amanda Simpson (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen) scored two goals and had two assists. Manns, along with Stephanie Boyle (Folsom, PA/Ridley), both caused three Puget Sound turnovers to lead the Blue Jays, and Boyle added a goal as well. Sarah Scholl (Forest Hill, MD/John Carroll School) led Etown with four ground balls, and she caused two Puget Sound turnovers.

Whitney Mackman (Scottsdale, AZ/Chaparral) led Puget Sound's offense with two goals. Molly Downey (Boise, ID/Bishop Kelly) led Puget Sound in ground balls with six.

Lisa Marquette (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) made 10 saves in the net for Elizabethtown.

Etown will return to action on the road against Moravian Saturday, March 22 in a Middle Atlantic Conference game. The game will be held at Muhlenberg College at 7:00 p.m.
