Elizabethtown Suffers First Loss of Season, 11-7, to MAC Rival Lycoming

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown suffered its first loss of the 2003 season, 11-7, at the hands of Middle Atlantic Conference rival Lycoming at home Wednesday. Etown drops to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the MAC with the loss, while Lycoming improves to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Despite the score, Elizabethtown managed to out-shoot Lycoming 27-19. Lycoming silenced the MAC's highest-scoring offense for much of the game by employing a smothering defense around the goal that resulted in the paths of many of those Etown shots getting altered by stick checks. Lycoming carried a 6-2 advantage into halftime and held a 10-3 lead with six minutes remaining in the game, before the Blue Jays mounted a late-game rally that fell short.

Jen Manns (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) and Liz Fretz (Parkerford, PA/Owen J. Roberts) both led Etown in goal scoring with two apiece. Jackie Brenton (Laurel, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) led Etown in assists with two.

Ashley Rowe (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) led Lycoming with five goals scored, including four in the first 34 minutes of the game.

Elizabethtown will return to action at home Saturday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m. against MAC rival Drew, which is currently ranked 18th in the nation.
