Etown Hammers King's, 22-13, Sets Program Win Mark, Liz Fretz Sets Draw Control Record

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown handily defeated Middle Atlantic Conference rival King's 22-13 at home Saturday to improve to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the MAC. With their fifth win of 2003, the Blue Jays set a new program record for most wins in a season, eclipsing their mark from their inaugural season of 2002, when Etown finished 4-10. King's drops to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the conference with the loss.

The high-scoring pace of the game was set in the first minute, as it took just 11 seconds from the opening whistle for Etown's Jen Manns (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) to score a goal off an assist from Liz Fretz (Parkerford, PA/Owen J. Roberts), who took the draw. Just 13 seconds after that, King's scored on a goal by Jennifer Bezick (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton). King's took its only lead of the game 3:25 in as another Bezick goal made the score 2-1.

Etown tied the score on another Manns goal 6:22 into the first half, and Manns scored again to put Etown up to stay 8:25 into the first half. By halftime, Etown held a comfortable 12-6 lead over the Monarchs, and the Blue Jays outscored King's 10-7 in the second half.
Manns finished the game with a team-high of six goals as well as two assists for eight points. Fretz and Ally Edel (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) each scored five goals and added two assists for Etown, and for the second time this season, Fretz set a program record for most draw controls in a game, this time garnering 14. Edel led the Blue Jays in ground balls with five.

Stephanie Boyle (Folsom, PA/Ridley) led Etown in caused turnovers with four, and she scored two goals. Amanda Simpson (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen) scored two goals and had one assist, and Meghen Riegger (Phoenix, MD/Catholic [Baltimore]) scored a goal and led Etown in assists with four. Sarah Scholl (Forest Hill, MD/John Carroll) scored one goal and had two assists, and Dana White (Freeland, MD/Hereford) chalked up an assist for Etown.

Lisa Marquette (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) made 15 saves in the Etown net.

Elizabethtown will not return to action until Tuesday, April 15, when the Blue Jays host Messiah in a 4:00 p.m. MAC contest. The game originally scheduled for Sunday against Alvernia has been cancelled.
