ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S LACROSSE Etown Sophomore Liz Fretz Reaches 100 Career Goal Plateau as Blue Jays Fall to Muhlenberg, 20-6 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- It took less than two seasons for Elizabethtown College sophomore Liz Fretz (Parkerford, PA/Owen J. Roberts) to tally 100 goals in her collegiate career, as she scored four times in Thursday's 20-6 home loss to Muhlenberg to run her career total to 102. Etown, playing in its second season ever, dropped to 5-7 overall with the non-conference loss, while Muhlenberg improved to 8-6 overall, as the Mules set a new program record for most wins in a season. Etown went up 1-0 on Fretz's 99th goal just 46 seconds after the opening whistle. Sarah Scholl (Forest Hill, MD/John Carroll) assisted the goal. A pair of goals by Courtney Tapkas (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) at 9:29 and 13:01 into the game gave Muhlenberg a 2-1 lead, but Etown came back to tie the game on a Jen Manns (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) goal, assisted by Fretz, at 15:04. Etown took a 3-2 lead just 35 seconds later as Manns netted another Fretz feed. Muhlenberg then scored five straight goals to take a 7-3 lead before Fretz struck again, this time unassisted on a free position shot, to become the first Blue Jay lacrosse player, among women or men, ever to compile 100 career goals at 24:18 into the first half. The first half concluded with a 9-4 Muhlenberg lead. Muhlenberg rattled off 11 straight goals through the first 29 minutes of the second half before Etown found its offensive touch again in the final minute. Fretz scored number 101 unassisted at 59:08, and she scored again off an assist by Ally Edel (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) at 59:22. Fretz scored 60 goals as a freshman in 2002, and she has 42 goals thus far this season. She also led Etown in draw controls against Muhlenberg with seven, and she tied with Edel and Stephanie Boyle (Folsom, PA/Ridley) for the team lead in ground balls with three each. Edel led the Blue Jays in caused turnovers with five. Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Saturday in its final Middle Atlantic Conference game of the season when it faces Scranton at 1:00 p.m. at Elizabethtown, Pa. Muhlenberg goals-assists: Tapkas 9-0, Caldwell 3-3, Geiger 2-0, Donohue 2-0, Bowman 1-1, Lamning 1-0, Marman 1-0. Shots: M 44, E 13. Ground Balls: M 24, E 20. Caused Turnovers: M 11, E 16.
