Widener Downs Etown, 14-9, in MAC Contest

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown dropped to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the Middle Atlantic Conference with a 14-9 home loss to Widener, which improves to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the MAC, Tuesday. The nine goals Widener allowed tied for the highest total of goals the Pioneers have allowed in a MAC game all season, having entered today's game out-scoring their conference opponents 46-12 in their first three MAC contests.

Elizabethtown struggled early in the game, and with four minutes to go before halftime, Widener led 7-1. Widener held an 8-3 lead at halftime. Before Widener scored a pair of goals in the game's final minute, Etown had cut the Pioneer advantage to 12-9.

Liz Fretz (Parkerford, PA/Owen J. Roberts) led the Etown attack with four goals scored, including three in the game's final ten minutes. Sarah Scholl (Forest Hill, MD/John Carroll School) led the Blue Jays in caused turnovers with four and ground balls with three. 2:59 into the second half, Etown junior attacker Jen Manns (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) tallied the 75th goal of her collegiate career, making her only the second Blue Jay in the three seasons the Etown lacrosse teams have existed to score that many goals.

Tricia Lynch (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) led Widener in scoring with four goals.

Etown will return to action on the road Thursday, April 1 against King's College in a 4:00 p.m. MAC game.
