Elizabethtown Outlasts Late FDU-Florham Run, Holds on for 10-8 Win in Conference Opener

MADISON, N.J. --- Elizabethtown improved to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference as the Blue Jays won their conference opener on the road Saturday 10-8 over FDU-Florham, which drops to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the MAC.

The teams took a 4-4 tie into halftime, but Etown surged ahead early in the second half with five straight goals to go up 9-4. FDU-Florham then struck back with a 4-0 run to cut the Blue Jays' lead to 9-8. With just over seven minutes left in the game, an FDU-Florham player appeared to score a goal to tie the game at 9-9, but the goal was invalidated after it was found to be made with the use of an illegal stick, and the score remained 9-8. Etown then scored the last goal of the game with 5:17 left to seal the victory.

Liz Fretz (Parkerford, PA/Owen J. Roberts) led the Blue Jay offense with three goals and two assists, and Ally Edel (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) scored three goals as well. Jen Manns (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) scored one goal and had one assist for Etown. Sarah Gilson (Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City) tallied two goals for the Blue Jays. Also scoring single goals for the Blue Jays were Dana White (Freeland, MD/Hereford) and Jenna Brown (Media, PA/Penncrest). Gilson's first goal of the game was the first of her collegiate career, while Brown's goal was the second of her career.

Etown will return to action Tuesday, March 22 on the road against Dickinson College in a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game.
