Elizabethtown Sinks Wilkes 13-4

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 5-9 overall and 3-5 in the Middle Atlantic Conference with a 13-4 home win over Wilkes University Saturday. Wilkes dropped to 1-10 overall and 0-7 in the MAC with the loss.
Etown scored the game's first eight goals and held a 9-1 lead by halftime.

Liz Fretz (Parkerford, PA/Owen J. Roberts) led Etown in goals scored with four, and she had two assists. Fretz, a senior, now has 49 goals this season and 195 goals in her career. Ally Edel (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) scored two goals and had one assist, and she led Etown in ground balls with five. Michelle Collier (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) scored two goals for Etown as well.

Amanda Simpson (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen) scored one goal and had one assist, and Danielle Grooms (Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas Johnson), Sarah Gilson (Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City), Jen Manns (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) and Sarah Scholl (Forest Hill, MD/John Carroll) all scored one goal for Etown. Scholl also led the team in caused turnovers with three, and Grooms led Etown in draw controls with three.

Etown goaltender Kelly O'Connor (Newtown, CT/Westover School) made 13 saves for the Blue Jays and scooped up one ground ball. Wilkes goalie Cassie Malone (Matamoras, PA/Delaware Valley) made 16 saves and had seven ground balls.

Jennifer Compton (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) and Stacy Fimmano (Bensalem, PA/Pennsbury) each scored two goals for Wilkes.

Etown will return to action at home Thursday, April 28 against MAC rival Messiah College at 4:00 p.m.
